Amber Technology
The HARMAN Luxury Audio Group is proud to have some of the best high-end consumer electronics partners across the globe. Each month, we have the pleasure of learning a little bit more about one of our dealers or distributors.
Formed in 1987, Amber Technology is a publicly listed company in Australia, with two physical offices and sales representatives in every state. In addition to our recently formed Specialist Hi-Fi division, Amber Technology also works in other audio-visual markets including professional broadcast, media and communications; defence, law enforcement and security; live sound and live production; musical instruments and sound recording; residential and commercial installation; and home entertainment.
Amber Technology was formed as a management buyout of Rank Electronics’ audio and film division in 1987 to act as a re-seller of AV equipment under long-term (8+years) exclusive agreements with names such as Sonance.
Since then, the company has grown significantly, and in January 2023 we acquired Convoy International, which began our relationship with HARMAN Luxury Audio through our dedicated Specialist Hi-Fi division.
How many people are on the Amber Technology team?
In the Specialist Hi-Fi team, there are six brand and sales team members working exclusively on our hi-fi offering. Several of our key team members have worked closely with HARMAN brands. We have a passionate team, with rich knowledge of JBL and the HARMAN portfolio. We are thrilled to be in partnership with HARMAN Luxury Audio.
The Specialist Hi-Fi team are supported by the broader company team across marketing, sales desk, operations, warehouse and logistics, finance, service, and technical support.
In total Amber Technology has more than 130 employees.

Training is crucial for both personal and professional development. Continuous learning and training are essential in a rapidly evolving world such as technology, allowing people to stay competitive, innovative, and prepared for new challenges.
As the Australian distributor for HARMAN Luxury Audio, training for our dealer network is a vital part of the sales chain. Our brand and sales team work together to equip dealers and their staff with the knowledge necessary to recommend high-end audio equipment to discerning consumers.

HARMAN Luxury Audio offers a wide range of products, including high-end speakers, amplifiers, headphones, and more. This variety allows customers to choose products that suit their specific audio needs.
How do you think the luxury audio industry is currently doing?
The state of the luxury audio industry can vary over time and is influenced by several factors, including economic conditions, technological advancements, and consumer preferences.
For example, active hi-fi speakers are trying to cut through the noise of the traditional amplifiers and passive speaker arrangement. Some brands are more successful than others at achieving market penetration. It’s a combination of performance, cosmetics and marketing that sets one apart from the other.
With technology, especially in the AV sector, the luxury audio industry is pivoting towards a simpler, more tactile experience. 2-channel audio products, including turntables are very popular, not only with the established older hi-fi crowd but also with young people looking for something more tangible and analogue.
JBL has managed to capture the cosmetic appeal of old-world hi-fi and combine this with up-to-date technology such as their Studio Monitor Active products.
Luxury audio brands are certainly focusing heavily on the cosmetic appeal, especially in the higher-end series, as post-COVID people are placing greater emphasis on creating an inviting environment in their homes. The opportunities for HARMAN products are very exciting for our team to pursue in partnership with our dealer network.
