With Meet The HARMAN Luxury Team, our goal is for you to get to know us better. In each edition we feature a different member of the team, and this month it's Mauricio Rodrigo Flores Bautista, Business Development Manager for the HARMAN Luxury Audio Group.
How would you describe what you do in your current role?
I consider it an honor to be representing these incredible brands in the Northern Latam region. It is a great development opportunity for the BU in the region, we have the chance to work in countries in which we have a great opportunity to grow this business and brand presence and the love for music is part of the culture.
What did you study in school? Did you always imagine yourself doing something like what you’re doing now or did the fates just take you in that direction?
I studied international relations, but I had my start in the sales of electronicswhen I worked for the first distributor that brought the HARMAN brands to Mexico and I was applying for various positions from sales supervisor to KAM. I never imagined being where I am, but it is the position that was always a personal goal and I am thrilled to be part of the HARMAN Family.
How did your career path lead you to HARMAN?
I believe that everything is based on results, experience and commitment. I met the BU of Luxury during my previous job at a distributor in Mexico and managed to develop several large projects of Synthesis in which allowed me to travel to LA and learn a little more of the essence of Luxury and to use it to develop the business in Mexico. Here I met Gabriela Arango and Michel Atristain. From Gabriela I always had the opportunity to learn several tips. Michel worked in the Retail area and I was in charge of the largest account in Mexico for consumer, Liverpool. After this, I had the opportunity to work directly with HARMAN leading sales projects initially in Mexico and now in the entire Northen Region.
What is the most important thing you have learned over your career?
I have learned to never give up and to always insist and that with the right attitude will always be the right way to be successful.
Any other advice you would share with people just starting out in this industry?
Learn from everyone, no matter what age or rank they have, always take what is good to put it into practice and help people in any way you can.
What are you most proud of in your life?
First of all, the family I have, my children are the main driving force to move forward, the other part of which I feel very proud is where I am today, and I know that it has not been easy and that there is a lot left to do.
When did you realize you had a passion for music or audio? Was there any one band, song, or movie that did it for you?
I always knew about my taste for audio since I was a teenager, since my dad was always a lover of music and audio equipment, he really liked to play Led Zepelin at high volumes. At that time we had Sansui equipment with Gradiente speakers, It was spectacular to be able to listen to that system. I don't have a particular movie, my parents always took us to the movies since we were little and from there it stayed with me and it is an experience that I have passed on to my children. From there my love for multichannel audio was born and by working selling this type of equipment it was even more. I had the opportunity to learn about this segment from Dolby Prologic, Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital, DTS, demonstrate these equipment with the VHS format and things of this style.
What current technology impresses you the most?
High resolution audio, experience the development of the new speakers.
Favorite music genre?
Rock, Jazz, Funk music.
The desert island question, of course. If you were marooned for eternity & could listen to only 3 albums, what would they be?
The complete Led Zeppelin collection.Earth Wind and Fire Big Hits andPearl Jam Ten.
You have the floor. In closing, tell us anything else you want us to know about yourself.
