Dawsons AV is a fourth generation family owned business established in 1927, and are located in Bournemouth, United Kingdom (UK). They have almost 100 years experience in the Audio Visual Industry and have always been at the forefront of new technologies. Current owner, Kevin Dawson, started working for his father at Dawsons 43 years ago. He has experience of everything Audio Visual. Whether it’s whole home automation, dedicated home theatre, multi-room music distribution, or a robust whole-home network, Dawsons can tailor a system specifically for any client’s needs. We recently caught up with Kevin to talk about business.
Tell us about the history of Dawsons AV.
We have the one location here in Bournemouth. My Great Grandfather started in the company in 1927 – we sold wind-up Gramophones and the early days of radio and accumulator re-charging. We have pretty much covered every technology breakthrough in our near 100 year history!
Our Home Cinema journey started way back in the 80s with HARMAN. We invested in the first of its kind in our area, a dedicated Home Cinema demo room using JBL and a CRT projector and screen.
We have six employees on the team and for us, training is very important; everyone here both in sales and installation have to be ahead of the curve. For example, we complete any training from HARMAN Luxury Group on JBL and ARCAM, as well as Crestron and Control4. And being a CEDIA member, we also complete their training courses.
What do you like most about HARMAN Luxury Audio products and which lines do you feature?
The fact that we have a certified JBL Synthesis 7.2.4 Atmos setup in our Cinema Demonstration room means that we can provide an immersive audio experience that is unmatched due to their patented compression drivers and their world renowned electronics. The Sony Laser Projector and 3.2 meter screen also enhance the visual aspect of the setup, ensuring that you get the best possible viewing experience.
Our commitment to quality and attention to detail is further exemplified by our upcoming second room, our Media room which will feature a JBL Studio 5.1.2 Atmos setup with ARCAM electronics and a 77-inch OLED panel. The addition of JBL Conceal for a Mirror TV showcases our ability to provide discreet and innovative solutions for your audio-visual needs.

How do you think the luxury audio industry is currently doing?
We can always do more – we currently have a lot more outside forces that could be holding back a luxury purchase. Time has taught me that if you deliver on performance and great customer service, we will always have a better chance – I am glad I am dealing in the more luxury end of the market.

I am proud to be the 4th Generation of our family business here at Dawsons. I think we deliver exceptional customer experiences in our showroom, and then we deliver and install some of the most immersive home cinemas, along with whole home AV and home automation.
